Program Accreditation is a critical element to help support and give legitimacy to a school or program. This is especially important for international students or higher education institutions with students who want an internationally recognized qualification after their studies are completed. Some programs at my college in Qatar have been granted accreditation by CTAB (Canadian Technology Accreditation Board) As well as being useful for international students, it is handy for those seeking a program transfer or further education outside of Canada. As the CTAB website describes. "Graduates of CTAB programs have international mobility rights under the Sydney & Dublin Accords in various countries such as Australia, Germany, Hong Kong China, Ireland, Korea, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom and the USA." (CTAB, 2015)
Accreditation and international treaties allow for recognition of your professional designation in other countries.
CTAB will perform on site reviews of programs after they receive an application from an institution to see if the program meets the standards of the National Technology Benchmarks for the appropriate rigor, quality and integrity. After a program receives accreditation it is subject to occasional reviews designed to ensure standards are being kept up.
I am an instructor in the Technician Preparatory Program, which is accredited through TAFE, the Australian governing body for Technical and Further Education in partnership with Chisholm Institute.
More and more, Canadian schools are forming international partnerships to take advantage of the globalization of work forces and opportunities presented by international students to diversify enrollment and revenue streams.
